Why Must You Go

Why are you leaving
where do you go
how can this happen
when I love you so

What use is the present
if we have no past
as I fade from your memory
could this day our last

How can this happen
When you are still here
and I have to watch
while you disappear

I hold you within me
but you leave me behind
I am lost without hope
as time carves your mind

I see you departing
more every day
my life will be empty
once you’ve gone away

When someone you know well develops altzeimer’s disorder, you have to watch them disappear a little each day.
